Hara: The Physical & Spiritual Center of The Body.

“Hara” is a Japanese word that refers to the physical and spiritual center of the body, located in the lower abdomen. This energy center is called “Dantian” in Chinese. The hara is an important focal point for practices like meditation, qi gong, and tai chi.

As an acupuncturist, I put my focus on my hara when I am treating patients. When I treat from this place, I am able to make a stronger connection to the patient’s qi and energetic body. I also practice hara massage on my patients with each treatment. This is an abdominal massage that gives attention and nourishment to the vital organs.

We can place our energy on our hara area anytime we want to have a stronger connection to the present moment, get out of our heads, and feel the universal qi that surrounds us.
