Holiday Travel Tips.

November 15, 2022 Rachel Appel

As we approach holiday season, we may be traveling more than usual, especially by plane. Traveling is exciting, but it can also be taxing on our systems. We might find it affects our sleep, digestion, and energy levels.

Over the years, I’ve found these tips help me feel my best while traveling:

  1. Eat a balanced meal before you fly and then again after you land. It is best to fast or eat lightly during the flight to keep your digestion happy.

  2. Ask for warm water on your flight and sip it throughout the plane ride. You can also fill a thermos with hot water before you board. This benefits both the nervous system and the digestion.

  3. Wear warm socks to keep the energy grounded in your feet. Bring plenty of layers to stay warm while traveling.

  4. Lather yourself with lotion or oil before your flight to keep your skin happy. This counteracts the dryness of planes and is grounding to the body.

  5. Meditate on the plane and/or once you land to help adjust to the time change.

  6. Take a warm bath or shower once you arrive at your destination to calm your system.

  7. Magnesium glycinate can help with sleep troubles and magnesium citrate can help with constipation while traveling. Talk to your health practitioner about these supplements.

  8. Enjoy the holiday cuisine while also making sure to get plenty of lean protein, healthy fats, and veggies. Too much processed food can make us feel tired and foggy. It’s all about balance!
