Reframing The Winter Blues.

Feeling blah?

The slowness of winter has settled in, and sometimes this can leave us feeling like we are walking around with 10 wet blankets on our head.

We’ve all learned the importance of slowing down this year, but the quiet and solitude of winter takes this to a whole different level.

I’ve found that embracing the slowness of winter instead of resisting it, can help ease winter blues, and make these colder and darker months more enjoyable.

It’s okay to feel like doing nothing and to sleep more, eat more, and exercise less. If this is your reality, you are not alone. In fact, it is normal to feel this way during winter. It would be unusual to maintain the same exercise, diet, and sleep habits all year long.

When we stop judging ourselves and start accepting the yin and feminine qualities of winter, this slow season can be very healing. You might be surprised that slowing down during winter will increase our vitality and health during spring and summer.

If you’re looking for a yin activity, try getting some fresh air, calling a friend, making a delicious warm beverage, reading a good book, cooking a meal for a loved one, or booking an acupuncture treatment.
