Square Breathing: A Simple Exercise to Reset the Nervous System.

The last few weeks have been a lot. Make sure that you are taking care of yourself. Spend time in nature, be with your friends and family, and remember to take deep breaths.

Square breathing, also called box breathing, is a simple exercise to help relieve stress from the body. You can practice this several times throughout the day to help reset the nervous system.

Square Breathing Technique:

  1. Find a comfortable seat, close your eyes, and take a few regular breaths. Notice where you are holding tension in your body. Try to relax those areas.

  2. Inhale through your nose slowly for 4 seconds.

  3. Hold your breath for 4 seconds at the top of your inhale.

  4. Exhale through your mouth slowly for 4 seconds.

  5. Hold your breath for 4 seconds at the bottom of your exhale.

  6. Repeat steps 2-5 until you feel re-centered.
