Bitter Flavor for Summer Health.

June 23, 2022 Rachel Appel

Embrace the bitter flavor to enhance your health this summer.

In Chinese medicine, there are five elements, and each element has a flavor associated with it. The summer season, correlated with the fire element, focuses on the bitter flavor.

The bitter flavor supports heart and small intestine function, decreases inflammation, and cools the body.

Bitter foods include coffee, green tea, chicory root, dandelion greens, collard greens, kale, arugula, mustard greens, parsley, burdock root, and sesame seeds.

Enjoy these foods in moderate doses to feel your best this season!
